The open space design of the Fire Brigade in Schönefeld is defined by the function of a fast and secure practicability of the surfaces in case of need. They build a spatial unit infront of the exit gates for the fire trucks. Paving in dark grey and bright white stone tiles, diagonally laid over the traffic area, traces “beams” which start at the buildings, underligne the division of exit gates and run from there towards the outer surroundings. The overall open space has the effect of a signal, sending –with the tower at the peak of built form –, the message “attention”
