The design of Nelson Mandela Place is not to be understood as the creation of a jewelry store but as a piece of living urban condition, merging with the surrounding private uses. The new grass parterre with a set of trees of Catalpa – bell tree – creates a focus in the place with a definite green edge. The lose planting of trees alongside the railway track serves for a green back bone and provides enjoyable shadow for the gastronomy. The former Celtes place is activated as an open common place with water aerators and a coffee shop. The Nelson Mandela place is supposed to enhance the transformation of the Southern urban area which is, in parts, socially weak. Therefore, it is necessary, that the place receives an intensive activation by gastronomy and event management.
