The new University Campus for Police and Public Administration in Herne for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (HSPV) will be built on the Funkenberg-Quartier near the city centre of Herne. It will be designed as a superordinate campus that develops its own identity. A central green square will form the focal point of the campus and become a communication and movement space as well as a multifunctional activity space. It serves as a communicative hub for staff and students. Its design with various plantings creates exciting visual relationships between the campus square and its green centre. The frame of the square is formed by the teaching building and the slim-designed administration building. The multi-purpose building with refectory and library is emphasised in its central position within the campus by its free-standing body in relation to the surroundings.
The use of modern and energy-efficient construction methods, as well as the drainage concept and the creation of green spaces, enable the emergence of a sustainable and ecologically valuable campus.
The result is a future-oriented, functional campus that offers the best conditions for research and teaching.
